What’s the 52 Week Speaking Challenge?
This blog is a documentation for my 52 Week Speaking Challenge. It’s a challenge I set for myself to speak at least once per week for all 52 weeks of 2012.
I decided to do this because I want to accomplish a few things. First, I want to become the best speaker I can. I’ve been speaking for over 8 years now but there’s always a new word or technique I learn every day and as a professional speaker, I want to be able to give the best to my audiences. I’m also beyond passionate about marketing, communication and leadership.
I also want to be able to get out there and share what I know with people. Finally, I’m working on both an HPL (High Performance Leadership project) with Toastmasters to earn my 3rd DTM (Distinguished Toastmaster) designation and also my membership to NSA (National Speakers Association).
Here’s how it works:
I have to give 1 speech every single week in 2012. I will speak at conferences, or to companies or organizations, and I can’t give a speech to somewhere I’ve already been before. Well, I can speak at the same place more than once this year, I just won’t get “credit” for it.
The challenge will be to find 52 places to speak at. If you know of any conference, event, company or organization that needs a speaker on the subjects of marketing, communication or leadership, please email me at cathey@puramarketing.com.
Week #12 – Area 82/84 International Speech and Evaluation Contest
You can probably tell that it’s contest season in Toastmasters. This is the 4th contest I’ve spoken at in the last few weeks. This time it was at an “area” contest. In Toastmasters, there are clubs, and then there are areas that have 4-5 clubs in them and then divisions that have 4-5 areas in …
Week #11 – Timber Talkers
I got another chance to speak at a contest. This time it was at the famous Timber Talkers Toastmasters club. They are a very well-known and strong club in the area. They were also having their International Speech and Evaluation contest. I was once again the Model Speaker. I have been using this as an …
Week #10 – The Unbreakable Rules of Personal Branding workshop
I went to Seattle today to give a full day workshop on “The Unbreakable Rules of Personal Branding”, hosted by Eventsbella. This is the second year in a row I’ve come up to Seattle to present for Eventsbella. Last April I came up and did a workshop on “The Unbreakable Rules of Marketing” which this …
Week #9 – Clackamas Stepping Stones
I visited another Toastmasters club again this week. It’s actually been a great experience to get out and visit clubs that I didn’t get a chance to get to when I was District Governor last year. Clackamas Stepping Stones is a club that’s over 20 years old. It’s fantastic with lots of wonderful members. Including …
Week #8 – Wafermasters
For this week’s speech, I drove up to Camas, Washington to visit Wafermasters at WaferTech. The experience was great from the moment I walked in the door. The facility is very modern and the people very friendly. The Toastmasters group I was speaking to was a small, yet fun and lively group. I gave my …
